Dr Dan Caines
MBBS (JCU) FRACGP DRANZCOG (adv)
Dr. Caines embarked on his medical journey in Townsville during the formative years of James Cook University’s medical school. Following his basic training and the completion of an advanced diploma in obstetrics, he transitioned to Ayr, where he served as a Senior Medical Officer at Ayr Hospital.
In 2014, he relocated with his young family to Atherton, cementing his General Practice career as a partner at Alice Street Medical Centre. Dr. Caines remains the sole provider of private obstetric services at Atherton Hospital, where he also maintains a part-time Senior Medical Officer role. Actively involved in medical education, he mentors both medical students and general practice registrars in general practice and obstetrics.
In 2022, after seeing a dire need in the community for increased General Practice services, Dan along with his wife Lauren, opened the Atherton Health Hub. A patient-centred clinic striving to empower our team to provide compassionate, individualised care.
Dr. Caines’ professional interests lie in women’s and child health, and he offers a range of procedural services:
- obstetrics (private and shared care),
- procedural contraception such as vasectomy and Mirena® insertion,
- advanced skin cancer management.
Outside of his medical practice, Dr. Caines finds solace and joy with his family on their small farm, where he cherishes moments in the outdoors, camping, and fishing.
Dr Marika Goodman
MBBS (JCU), FRACGP, FARGP, DRGA
Born and raised in the Northern Beaches of Cairns, Dr Goodman’s medical career began by graduating from James Cook University with her medical degree in 2013. Since then she has travelled across Queensland, gaining diverse experiences in various medical settings.
Dr. Goodman’s journey led her back to the Atherton Tablelands in 2019, where she assumed the role of a Senior Medical Officer at the Atherton Hospital.
In 2020, she achieved another milestone by completing her General Practice training, further solidifying her proficiency in providing comprehensive medical care. Additionally, Dr. Goodman holds a Graduate Diploma in Child Health and Anaesthetics, showcasing her commitment to specialised fields within medicine.
Currently, Dr. Goodman is on a quest for knowledge, pursuing her Masters in Lifestyle Medicine, a testament to her belief in holistic approaches to healthcare.
Beyond the confines of work, Dr. Goodman finds joy in the company of her husband, two vibrant boys, and their beloved canine companions.
Dr Briana Van Beekhuizen

Dr. Briana, a dedicated practitioner with a passion for community health, brings a wealth of experience and a compassionate approach to her practice. Born and raised in Queensland, amidst the serene landscapes of the Darling Downs, her early years were enriched by cultural diversity during her time in Papua New Guinea. Dr. Bri embarked on her academic journey at the University of Queensland, earning degrees in both Science and Medicine, with a pivotal year spent as a research assistant.
Following her studies, Dr. Bri honed her skills through internships and junior doctor roles at Townsville Hospital, where she discovered her calling in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, earning an advanced diploma in the field. Her professional journey took her across diverse landscapes, from the Torres Strait Islands to the vast outback of Longreach, and beyond.
In 2014, Dr. Bri settled in Atherton with her growing family, finding fulfillment in nurturing her professional interests in women’s and children’s health, nutritional impacts on well-being, and cross-cultural medicine. She is proficient in all aspects of general practice with a special interest in women’s health procedures.
Beyond her medical practice, Dr. Bri finds joy in exploring different cultures through travel, savouring diverse cuisines, and pursuing outdoor activities such as hiking and camping. She cherishes time with her family, fostering a balanced lifestyle that complements her commitment to healthcare excellence.
