On the day appointments

Atherton health Hub provides an on the day appointment service for urgent health matters. These appointments are reserved for urgent matters only and open at 8:30am each morning.

Immunisations

We provide immunisations for childhood, school based catch up and those high-risk adults as per the National Immunisation Program Schedule. We can also consult for travel vaccination and can administer privately scripted vaccines.

Please note – We do not have any practitioners registered for Q fever vaccination or Yellow fever vaccination our friendly staff can guide you to local providers of this service should it be required.

Children's Health

As a family practice, we recognise the significance of fostering a welcoming environment, especially for our young patients. We witness firsthand the positive impact of ensuring children encounter friendly faces during their clinical visits, and as such, we are dedicated to cultivating a comfortable and reassuring experience during each visit.

Women's Health

At Atherton Health Hub, we are dedicated to providing comprehensive women’s health services tailored to meet the unique needs of every individual. From adolescence through menopause and beyond, our experienced team offers a range of services to support women’s reproductive health, general well-being, and preventive care.

Our women’s health services encompass routine gynecological examinations, contraceptive counseling and management, prenatal care, menopause management, breast health screenings, and cervical cancer screenings. We prioritise open communication, confidentiality, and respect for each patient’s autonomy and preferences.

As part of our integrated model of care we have a close relationship with Birds of Paradise clinic, who offer onsite specialist level care.

 

Men's Healthcare

Atherton Health Hub recognises the importance of men’s health and is committed to providing comprehensive and personalised care to support men at every stage of life. We offer a range of men’s health services aimed at promoting well-being, preventing illness, and addressing specific health concerns. Dr Caines offers vasectomy procedures.

From routine check-ups and screenings to management of chronic conditions, such as hypertension and diabetes, we offer tailored healthcare solutions to meet the unique needs of each patient. Our services include preventive health screenings, prostate health evaluations, sexual health assessments, and lifestyle counselling.

Vasectomy

Dr Caines offers vasectomy under local anaesthetic at Atherton Health Hub. Vasectomy remains the most common form of permanent contraception for a man. Click on the following link for more detailed information about the procedure.

Minor Surgical Procedures

Atherton Health Hub has a dedicated procedural room and a number of minor surgical procedures are performed at the practice.

  • Minor skin cancer surgery including skin grafts and skin flaps if required.
  • Family planning with intrauterine device insertion, implanon insertion and vasectomy under local anaesthetic.
  • Assessment and management of fractures
  • Intraarticular joint injection

Sexual Health

At Atherton health Hub, we offer a comprehensive sexual health services to ensure the well-being and reproductive health of our patients. Confidential consultations are available for a range of sexual health concerns, including screening for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), contraception counselling and prescriptions, preconception counselling, and sexual health education.

We understand the importance of open communication and respect for individual preferences and needs. Whether you require routine screenings, advice on contraception options, or support for managing STIs, our caring professionals are here to provide compassionate and nonjudgmental care.

Pharmacy Services

Atherton Health Hub offers comprehensive on-site and in-home pharmacy services.  Our pharmacist focuses on medication management, offering personalised consultations both in-house and through Home Medication Reviews and Residential Medication Management reviews. Our Pharmacist meticulously conducts medication reviews, reconciliations, and recommendations, fostering the safe and effective quality use of medicines.

Empowering patients with insight and understanding of their medication regimens, we prioritise patient-centered care by delivering comprehensive education, demonstrate device usage and facilitate the organisation of dose administration aids, as well as any other services to better medication compliance. Through seamless coordination with hospital and community pharmacies, as well as aged care facilities, we ensure uninterrupted continuation of care, putting your well-being as our top priority. Nursing Care

Our nursing team plays a vital role in providing exceptional care and support to our patients. Our highly skilled nurses work collaboratively with the doctors across various areas to ensure comprehensive healthcare delivery.

From daily dressing clinics facilitated by our wound care nurse to chronic disease management overseen by our dedicated chronic disease nurse, our nursing services encompass a wide range of specialised care. Our team is also experienced in coordinating care for veterans through the Department of Veterans Affairs Coordinated Veterans Care program, led by our DVA nurse.

Additionally, our nurses are available to arrange home visits for patients who may require assistance or care in the comfort of their own homes. With a commitment to delivering compassionate and patient-centered care, our nursing team strives to enhance the overall health and well-being of our patients through personalised and holistic approaches.

Antenatal Care

Dr Caines is the only doctor providing full obstetric care in both a share care and full private care model. Please let reception know at the time of booking so adequate time can be allocated to your consultation

Obstetrics and antenatal care

Dr Caines currently provides the only private obstetric service on the Tablelands, and strongly believes in advocating for womens’ choice while maintaining evidence based best practice.

He enjoys all aspects of obstetric care from preconception counselling, antenatal care, care at the time of birth (including both emergency and elective caesarean), to the care of your newborn baby. He maintains private admitting rights at the Atherton Hospital where he also works as a part time Senior Medial Officer in Obstetrics.

He is able to provide obstetric ultrasound on site (dating ultrasound, growth and wellbeing ultrasound), and has a strong interest in managing diabetes in pregnancy.

He finds the most enjoyable aspect of his practice the continuity of care that he is able to provide to families, and continuing to provide general practice care as children grow.

He works closely with a network of clinicians including midwives, paediatricians and specialist obstetricians and maintains the following memberships:

  • Advanced Diploma from the Royal Australian College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology
  • Australian Diabetes in Pregnancy Society (ADIPS) Member
  • Society of Obstetric Medicine of Australia and New Zealand (SOMANZ) Member.

Dr Caines is happy to provide care to women who usually do not attend the practice. No referral is required.
